Cuba Medical Electives
The USA is normalising its relations with Cuba!
How will this change Cuba? In the long run, it will make a huge difference, but most changes will come slowly and will depend on progress towards lifing the US trade embargo. This is a fascinating time to be an elective student in Cuba, seeing the Cuba that tourists don't see and finding out what ordinary Cubans think and how they see their lives and their country changing.
I am a GP in London with a particular interest in promoting beneficial links between Cuban doctors and health workers and their counterparts in other countries. Cuba Medical Electives is a programme run by Cuba Medical Link, a registered charity under the law of England and Wales. Beginning in 2010 we have enabled 300 medical students from 16 countries to go to Cuba for their elective.
» Electives are available in our programme in the medical teaching institute in Santiago de Cuba, now entering its sixth year.
» The elective programme in Havana is now in its third year.
» Electives can also be arranged in other provinces of Cuba.
» Electives are now also offered in dentistry, nursing and physiotherapy.
» You don't have to be British – students from any country can apply through Cuba Medical Link.
» We provide all the information you need to arrange your elective, and ongoing support, but Cuba Medical Link is not a commercial organisation, and you make your arrangements yourself with information and help from us.
